MMA in Walla Walla Washington

Walla Walla, Washington is having it's first sanctioned Mixed Martial Arts event tonight at 6 at the Armery. A few local fighters are competing including Ty Crane who was a student of Steve Smith for a short time and now trains with his Dad, Rene Erm. It looks like there will be about 12 matches and the 500 seat arena is sold out.

For Mixed Martial Arts training in Walla Walla there are a few good choices both for competition and fitness. Premier Martial Arts, Calhoons Black Belt Academy, The Little Dojo, Blue Mountain Tae Kwan Do being the best choices.

In choosing a place to train it is imperative to seek out a school that has a depth of experience in competing and in the methods nessesary to develop great conditioning and technical skill, and to find a coach that you resonate with.

Steve Smith at Premier Martial Arts has trained in every thing from Karate to Closed door systems and has trained fighters who have won various mma and other events. Ryan Calhoon teaches MMA at Calhoun's Black Belt Academy.

Check it out MMA for competion and conditioning just makes sense.

Attack Proof: Real Solutions to Violent Attacks or Guided Caos

This method of Ki Chuan Do or Guided Chaos by John Perkins is one of the best methods of fighting / personal safety. His methods are proven and practical no nonsense and direct. Most of what is taught today is garbage, based on the ring sports and touted as practical.

This method is excellent for everyday people big strong or small and petite. Everyone should be learning methods of personal saftey and methods they can use to combat violence around them. Thank you Mr. Perkins for the excellent work.

Principal Killed by Shot Struggling with Student for Shotgun?

"CHICAGO, Sept. 29 — The principal of a rural Wisconsin school was shot to death on Friday, on the eve of what was to have been a weekend of homecoming festivities, by a 15-year-old who was disciplined on Thursday for having tobacco in school, the authorities said."

This artical in The New York Times should finally wake up school administrations around the country to the real need for school administrations get instruction for their teachers and staff on how to deal with 1. School Bullying and to take students complaints of it seriously 2. Attacks on campus. When I here of these kinds of events happening over and over again, I wonder why do school systems ignore the need for training. Training should consist of verbal technique, physical technique, not just the do the best you can variety but real violence deescalation technique. And techniques so principals aren't just struggling for a gun but taking it away and ending the problem.

So many people are out there and available in most communities that could be brought in and consulted Law enforcement, Maritial Arts experts etc.

Steve Smith, James Keating, Vladimir Vasiliev and others could give teachers and staff real effective and relitivly easy to learn methods to help end the violence or at least stem it.

Tito Ortiz the Ultimate Big Mouth meets Ken Shamrock the UFC Ledgend

Tito Ortiz the Hunnington Beach Bad Boy faces off against Ken Shamrock UFC ledgend. Tito Ortiz seams to have Franks number in the make a comment blow the top area, Tito can play poor Frank like a true virtuoso. Ken in the ring hopfuly can set the pace and not be so played it is sad to see someone who together with Royce Gracie built the UFC end up looking like the butt of a joke.

Ken is one of the best fighters of his Generation it would be nice to see him do well tonight. Tito adds action and flair not since Mohamed Ali has there been a fighter that can set up their apponants with reteric as well out side of the ring as they do with a Jab in the ring. Here's to a great fight tonight.

Chuck Norris, Why I like Him

Chuck Norris while maybe not the best fighter of all time (was one of the top Karate Champs) does have a begginers mind when it comes to martial arts. For example while being one of the most well known Martial Artists of his generation he saw a place to improve on ( his ground game) and sought out Rigan Mashado for training. Chuck Norris walks his talk, he has a philosophy of life and lives it. He talks about fitness and he is fit look at him he works out.

Chuck Norris can laugh at himself. Check out this clip over at www.youtube.com

Spyderco Introduces New Chinook 3

Spyderco has introduced the New version of a great knife. The Spyderco Chinook is already a real functional knife, strong fast and with all the benifits of a bowie style tip. The new improvments include flat grind for better cutting and reduced weight.

The Chinook
is designed by Master of Arms James Keating who is one of the most respected western blade proponents in the world. He designed it for his personal carry and it therefore had to be "right".

The Chinook 1 and 2 for my taste were just a bit bulky in the handle for my smaller hands the Chinook 3 has remedied that for me. My knives have to be easy to sharpen and have a flat grind for easy cutting. I recomend this knive.

Premier Martial Arts Presenting a Team Fighter at UFC 50

PMA Opens Mixed Martial Arts Training Center In Long Beach California - PMA Forms Mixed Martial Arts Pro Team

Premier Martial Arts is excited to welcome Alan Predolin to the PMA family. Mr. Predolin will own and operate a Premier Training Center in Long Beach California that will specialize in training professional MMA / Kickboxing / and Jiu-Jitsu fighters. This PMA center will also be the home of the new PMA Mixed Martial Arts Pro Team.

  1. We are also excited to announce that Alan Predolin and Premier Martial Arts has signed Alessio Sakara as our first member of the PMA/MMA Pro Team.

Foundation

Here is a great idea; Foundation. Pierre Hartman is offering a realistic way to get your "feet wet" in the rare and hard to pin down method of Bruce Lee's Non Classical Gung Fu. Pierre Hartmann is a direct first generation student of both Jesse R. Glover and Ed Hart (Bruce Lee's second student and author of Gung Fu to Grappling and Boxing for Street Self Defense).

The training is 50 hours of intensive, very, and is held in the Geneve Switzerland area, each program is limited to 4 highly motivated people who are ready to take their training to the next level and are interested in high level health, fighting capability and or a career teaching the Chinese Boxing Association's Non Classical Kung Fu. Foundation has three levels: Foundation, Foundation Professional, Foundation Instructor.

I personaly watched a group of 4 people who just completed this course work out and they are the real deal. One just won a MMA championship in Zurich and the others you can see are really good movers.

Its a great Idea and it is producing real results, way to go Pierre!

Comtech

In the mid 1990's there were some very valuable videos available from a company called CSI Productions featuring James A Keating, showing very clearly methods of trapping, knife work etc. CSI Productions closed and I thought the Comtech tapes were gone too. Great news I found James A Keating web page this morning and the tapes are still available there are more titles. His tapes are an excellent source of information for begginers and intermediate level "train at home players", and he now has a series of eight seminars coming up in 2006 if one is interested in taking it to the next level. I will get his Knife Boxing DVD and review it here soon.

UFC 59

Way to go Tito Ortiz, you brought it on in a great way in the begining of the fight with Forrest, you almost had it handed to you in the last two rounds maybe look into more conditioning his super conditioning made speed almost a decisive factor. It would be a shame to throw away a victory on that. Both fighters had a lot of heart and that match made the UFC worth watching again.

Karate Junkie

Being always on the look out for crazy karate material to critique took me this morning to a virtual torrent of Karate stories, news clips, and etc.. It looks to be a rich source of material to tear apart for any gem of worth. www.karatejunkie.com

There are alot of from the side stuff. For example one guy is teaching Tai Chi Aerobics. Well there you go. First there was Tae Bo and Cardio Karate why not Tai Chi Aerobics. He has done his research and points out the Tai Chi is easier on your joints and body than some of the harder appoaches.

ADHD advantage

This is a little off topic but I just found a great resourse for other parents of kids with ADHD. These folks in Hillsboro Oregon start it off from a positve direction http://www.adhdadvantage.com.

Overview of Martial Arts

The problem with many martial arts systems is that the techniques are so complicated that in an emergency (read attack) are never put to use. Premier Martial Arts is a modern blend of Sport Karate, Compitition Weapons Forms, Kali, Grappling, and Personal Protection. The Goal of its creators Greg Silva and Barry Van Over is to give people a full and effective martial arts program. The Personal Protection is functional and will be there if the student needs it. It is not so much that the techniques are better it really is just in the way the method is trained. Students are really put in pressure situations that teach them to respond proactively in an emergency.

It is so common as to be a cliche that "trained Karate Men" have their butts handed to them because they train techniques and not, mind set an freeze under the pressure of a real fight. It really dosent matter what system you train in if you are training to do technique and not to implement what you do under pressure.

It does a student well to seek out a school with methods and a training stategy that will help a student move instinctively when scared paralized and when not having an on day. Attackers are proffesional they case you when you are down they attack.

Choose a school with instructors who will help you with training to move well when the crap is clogging the fan.

Premier Martial Arts does this well and will teach you to perform well and look good in competition.
